Volunteer FAQ's

Can I still bike the entire route?
Yes, there are many ways to volunteer and still bike the entire route. Some examples are helping on Friday and/or Saturday morning with Registration and Parking. Safety Monitor volunteers typically ride the entire route; they just volunteer for an hour and a half or so on some portion of the route. Volunteers who help with merchandise sales at the Bike Virginia Store help out in the afternoon after the day's ride. Let us know your availability and we'll find a place and schedule that works for both of us!

Can I get a discount on registration if I volunteer?
You can receive Bike Bucks for volunteering, which can be applied to a future Bike Virginia tour or towards merchandise now or in the future.

Do I have to be experienced or have certain skills?
Yes, you have to know how to smile and enjoy helping people. You do not need special skills - except for the Bike Smart team. A Team Leader from each Volunteer area will be available to make sure you are prepared and comfortable in your position.

What kind of things would I be doing?
There are a variety of Volunteer Teams. It will depend on your availability. Able to help on Friday only - then you could be helping with Parking or Registration. Have a few hours to spare - we can always use cheerful salespeople in Hospitality. Want to take a day off - then you could be helping with Hospitality, Tent City, Sag Support or Signage. Check out the Volunteer Descriptions to learn more about each team.

How many volunteers do you need?
We need at least 75 and could use 100 or more volunteers. So sign up and recruit your friends to join you! There are a variety of positions and great flexibility in scheduling. See Volunteer Descriptions for more details on each one.
