Bike Virginia 2006– Tour de Love

Bike Virginia 2006: Tour de Love

The Old Dominion is for lovers of natural wonders and beauty, lovers of history, lovers of thrills and excitement, lovers of people and places; and most of all, lovers of cycling. One of the best ways to explore the Commonwealth's many worlds is on two wheels. There is no other place on earth that combines such diverse natural beauty with so many layers of American history. From South Hill to Emporia to Roanoke Rapids, towns small in stature, but big in heart welcomed us with warm hospitality.

Our Tour de Love began and ended in South Side Virginia, where untold miles of country roads awaited us. The town of South Hill served as our Bike Virginia home. After a day of touring Lake Country with its 70,000 acres of beautiful blue lakes and miles of pristine shoreline, we pedaled east to Emporia. Monday, we crossed the state line into North Carolina's "cradle of history," exploring Historic Halifax County, the "Birthplace of Independence." Our Tour de Love concluded with a return to the Old Dominion where we were greeted with Love in Valentines, Virginia.
