Bike Virginia 2005– Valley Byways Tour

Roanoke Star

As we toured the byways of the Roanoke and Shenandoah valleys we found ourselves going back in time, traversing areas rich in history, steeped in beauty and alive with nature. Just beyond our handlebars and around the next curve was something we wouldn't have missed for the world. The Valley Byways took us past pristine farmlands and vineyards, fertile valleys, restored villages and Civil War battlefields, where the guns fell silent over a century ago.

Our Valley Byways Tour began and ended in the All-American City of Roanoke, the "Capital of the Blue Ridge." James Madison Middle School and Fishburn Park Elementary School served as our Bike Virginia Home.

After a day of touring the Roanoke Valley with its mountain beauty, historic heritage and southern grace, we pedaled north to lexington via the beautiful Botetourt byway. Lexington, our home for the next three days, was a charming town where the echoes of our past still ring loud and clear and the stunning beauty of the Shenandoah Valley takes center stage. Beauty, history, nature and solitude - we found them all on our tour of Virginia's magnificent Valley Byways.
