Food
Local civic
groups in each town provide most meals through our Meal
Plan. Local restaurants are also available for breakfast
and dinner. Three meal plans can be purchased in advance:
Breakfast (5 meals), Lunch (3 meals), or Dinner (5 meals).
Everyone is strongly encouraged to purchase the Lunch
Plan, as places to eat along the route can be few and
far between. Meals cannot be purchased at the door and
you must have a prepaid Meal Ticket. Along the route,
rest stops are well stocked with water, fresh fruit and
other goodies. Vegetarian fare is also available. You
won't go hungry on Bike Virginia !
Accommodations
Most Bike Virginia cyclists camp each night at the local high school or college. You will need to bring your own tent and camping gear. Indoor camping is available each night if you just want to bring a sleeping bag and mat. Motel accommodations are available on a first-come basis. A list of motels offering special Bike Virginia rates is on our Web Site . You must make your own reservation. We've listed B&B's as well, but you must coordinate your own luggage and transportation arrangements with your B&B host.
Luggage
We will provide you with destination tags for your luggage (limit of one bag per person; two if camping). Each morning bring your luggage to our waiting trucks, then after a hearty breakfast, pedal off to the next destination. You and your bag will be reunited at the next town. There is a charge of $15 for individuals needing luggage transferred to and from motels during the week.
Entertainment and Activities
Bike Virginia is not your average bicycle tour - each destination offers a new discovery. Converse with living history interpreters, join a walking tour of historic homes, take a float trip, or treat yourself to a relaxing massage. In the evening, tap your toes at our street parties featuring live music, food festivals and fun. Swap stories with the local townspeople, it's all part of the Bike Virginia experience.
