Motel Accommodations
This year there is a unique opportunity for those staying in motels. Motelers will lodge the first three (3) nights in Harrisonburg , even though Tent City will be at Bridgewater College on Friday and Saturday, and then move to Harrisonburg on Sunday. The three night Harrisonburg motel logistics are necessitated by: 1) There are no motels in Bridgewater , 2) Bridgewater and Harrisonburg are only 12 miles apart, and 3) You will have the use of your car for Friday and Saturday. On Sunday morning, you will not check-out of your motel but simply drive to Bridgewater , park your car, and then bike the route to Harrisonburg .
Since all official
Harrisonburg motels will be on the Bike Virginia shuttle
bus route on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, you will have
the option of parking your car Friday at Bridgewater College
and simply "leave the driving to us."
If you would like to be near the center of activity at Tent City , as well as enjoy the comforts of a bed and air conditioned room, you might want to consider staying in an air-conditioned residence hall at Bridgewater College on Friday and Saturday and a t a residence hall at JMU on Sunday. In addition, as a motel option, those who choose the residence hall option will have their luggage transported with the Tent City luggage from Bridgewater College to JMU via our Bike Virginia luggage trucks.
For more information on our accommodation options, including residence halls, motels, and Tent City , please read below.
Outdoor Camping: Most
Bike Virginia cyclists camp each night on the grounds
of the local college or high school. You will need to
bring your own tent and camping gear.
Mobile
Camping : A mobile camping service will be provided
for the first time on Bike Virginia 2004 - The Shenandoah
Odyssey. This "sherpa" service will increase your time
and energy at Tent City by allowing them to do your work
for you. They will provide a dome tent (single or double),
air mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, and towel. In addition
to supplying the campers with the Tent City Basics, they
will also set up and tear down your camp on a daily basis.
For more information and to make reservations, please
visit Mayberry's Sherpa Service at www.sherpamayberry.com
Indoor Camping : If you did not bring a tent, indoor camping is available each night on a first-come, first-serve basis. So far, we had no problem accommodating the 75 cyclists choosing this option. Simply roll-out your sleeping bag and pad in the gym at each location. There is no additional fee.
